Most of my childhood was spent growing up in the Winter Strawberry capital of the world. I will let you look it up 😉 It was my favorite berry until I was an adult and met Black Raspberries, also known as Blackcaps.

We recently discovered true wild strawberries on our property. These sweet little white blooms with their baby strawberries was an exciting find. They thrive in the acidic soil that the pine forest around them has created. They are food to the box turtles, among other critters.

Tasha Tudor had this to say about her wild strawberries, “the sweetest I’ve ever tasted.” (-Tasha Tudor’s Garden)

It seemed so appropriate to find them on my walks around the farm, since I was working on my new bundle, Berry Sweet Bee which is all about Strawberries and Bees.

Speaking of bees, did you know that spraying gardens or weeds with things like herbicides or insecticides are contributing to the quick decline of bees – as well as other insects? Great alternatives are to try companion planting like nasturtiums or basil, mulching with leaves gathered from your yard, or using untreated wood chips. We are happy to see our bees and other pollinators. Even the pesky flies pollinate our plants and that’s a good thing too.

Now, onto the real reason you found yourself here. Since it is May 1st, that means the Digital Scrapbook Blog Train is now live. 6. Thanks for the cute, fresh mini! I didn’t know that black raspberries are also called blackcaps. I’ve found that most people don’t understand that blackberries and black raspberries are not the same thing AT ALL. I remember picking black raspberries as a kid, and oddly enough (to go with your theme), one time some little sweat bees got up under the short sleeve of my t-shirt and totally freaked me out! LOL

    1. You are very welcome Tricia! Hehe cute experience. I would have freaked out too had that happened to me as a kid. And I always say you can tell the difference between the two because blackberries have a “core” and black raspberries leave the “core” behind when you pick them. Nothing better than sun-warmed black raspberries right off the bush. Thanks so much for sharing your anecdote Tricia! ♥
