I stumbled across an interesting book title recently, Henry and the Great Society. It’s about yearning for a different life, actually the one we expected to inherit before there was “progress”. I often have felt that way and thus it resonated with me. My great grandmother was a mother during the Great Depression living on a homestead farm in Maine. There wasn’t much of her Boston area days growing up in which she reminisced about – but it was the farm life. And despite it being the Great Depression, what my great grandmother walked away remembering was the good times on that farm. To me that says a lot. I am sure there were tough times too – but she chose to embrace the better parts of it.

I look back, and find it’s no surprise I lived thru Little House on the Prairie & Louisa May Alcott’s books as a teen. It’s probably why I am to the point where I no longer feel good about this modern world and all it’s convenience and technologies I find myself living among. I guess it’s why I embraced farm life so easily, although never was there a perfect world outside of the Paradise God created, but the quality of life was higher at some points in history.

Whether you yearn for a different way of life or not, we can all mull over the experiences of those around us and at least learn something from them.

And that brings me to today’s mini kit I have as part of Digital Scrapbook’s Mixed Media Monthly #9. This mixed media mini kit, Yearn, is perfect for reminiscing about those moments from our past or dreaming of something in the future. A sweet palette supports the theme and can help you put your thoughts and feelings into your projects. It contains 32 elements and 8 papers. It will be available for a limited time. You can find it below.
